One of our cultures most common holiday traditions comes from a very old German and Ukrainian legend of one of the tiniest and misunderstood of creatures, The Legend of the Spider is where our tradition of covering our Christmas trees with tinsel originates.
As legend has it on Christmas Eve spiders came out to see the ornaments hanging on a Christmas tree and were so captivated by the beauty of what they saw they danced and spun webs all over the tree. Some tellings of the legend state it was an angle some say it was baby Jesus others tell that Santa Clause came at dawn to see the webs and was so pleased by the spiders enthusiasm that the webs were touched by a magical hand that turned the dusty webs to silver and gold. Hence where our tradition of holiday tinsel arrives. The legend of the Spider once was celebrated by hanging a spider on ones Christmas tree.
